EBONYI STATE UNIVERSAL BASIC EDUCATION BOARD SOCIAL MOBILIZATION DEPARTMENT
Overtime, people often think that nobody cares about their lives. They see life and its various challenges as personal affair. Hardly do they know and believe that someone, somewhere, unknown to them, care about people like them. Although, other people on the other side often think and believe that they have nothing to do with the lives of other people they know little or nothing about. All these misconceptions are what Social Mobilization Department of Ebonyi State Universal Basic Education Board has proved wrong in the past three years of Engr. Dave Umahi led administration.
Between 2015 and 2017, the department collaborated with Oando Foundation, a non-governmental organization in selection process of 29 scholars across the state for scholarship in the Secondary School education, which these pupils never thought could be possible in life.
Hope also smiled on another 5 primary school pupils when they were selected to participate in 2015 edition of Lafarge Africa National Literacy competition, LANC, an educational intervention programme implemented by a Lagos based non-governmental organization, Ovie Brume Foundation as a part of her social responsibility to the education sector.
The Department led Ebonyi State contingent to the South East regional level of the competition in July 2015 and October 2017 editions and came back with 3rd and 5th positions respectively. The department also supervised the preparation for 2018 edition of the competition across the 13 Local Government Education Authorities of the state.
In the Home Grown Feeding Programme of the state, the department has completed her role in the planning and is waiting for the state government directive to swing into action to that effect.
The department in her effort to sensitize and re-orient stakeholders in the basic education sub-sector on the importance of Early Child Education in sustainable education, has collaborated with UNICEF Field Office, Enugu to carry out enrolment drive campaign programme in the 13 LGEA’s of the state in fulfillment of the Federal Government mandate of Education for All, EFA.
The programme which started in 2015 has completed the inauguration of steering committees for the Drive Campaign at the state, local government and community and school level and their trainings.
The department has just concluded the sensitization of school Based Management Committee Members, SBMC, head teachers, and local government legislators on the need, essence and impact of Early Child Education in child school retention and reduction in school drop-out for accelerated development of the basic education sub-sector.
These are some of the landmark achievements of the department in the last three years.
